Eagle Crest
I can hear water pipes running beneath the deck. The irrigation system is running, keeping small bushes green in the middle of the desert. I can hear ducks somewhere, and cars farther still, and the quietness of the open sky.
The sun is almost rising.
It's a little cold, just enough that it sends a chill down my spine every few minutes. My footsteps are a little slow. I will go soon, and walk around with my mentor, Kim, and talk about my angst and sadness and hope. And then we will return to this house full of people I work with and love, people who are good and caring and amazing and who would fix anything in the world for me that they could. They've offered already and they will give more still.
I sip my water glass and watch the deer run up to the edge of the yard. I am so sad and so blessed.
This will be a good trip.
